Saif Ali Khan chargesheeted in The Taj Hotel assault case

December 21st, 2012

Back in February 22nd, 2012, actors Saif Ali Khan, along with Kareena, Karisma, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora, businessman Shakeel Ladak and producer Bilal Amrohi etc. went to The Taj Hotel. At a nearby table, there were a South African businessman Iqbal Meer Sharma and his father-in-law Raman Patel. Saif and his friends were very loud at their table and hence Iqbal Sharma requested the celebrities to be quieter; at this, Saif Ali asked Iqbal and Raman to go to a library if they need silence.

Later, Sharma’s family finally decided to change tables and while doing so, actor Saif allegedly threatened and assaulted them. In his complaint, Saif Ali in Taj Hotel brawl, chargesheetedMr. Sharma stated that Saif fractured his nose and his father-in-law was also hit. Saif claimed he had merely retaliated to Sharma’s punches and alleged that the businessman had passed comments at him.

The Colaba police on Thursday filed a 120-pages chargesheet under sections 325 (assault) read with 34 (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The police have also submitted medical reports and the CCTV footage of the brawl. As many as 29 witnesses have reportedly said they had seen Saif and his friends hit and manhandle Sharma.

In his complaint, Sharma stated that, Saif allegedly threatened him, fractured his nose and his father-in-law was also hit. Saif used abusive language and when the argument furthered, Saif punched Iqbal and fractured his nose. When Sharma’s father-in-law tried to intervene, he too was assaulted and he fell to the ground; around that moment, Ladak and Amrohi also punched Patel.

The question is: will these 29 witnesses stand in the court of law during the trial or will turn hostile because most of the witnesses, which include The Taj hotel staff, are known to both the parties.
